Cinnamon Espresso Poke Cake (cake mix hack)

  • chocolate cake mix

  • 1 can cream cheese frosting tub

  • 1/2 cup espresso, cooled

  • 1 tbsp and 1 tsp cinnamon, divided

  • eggs (amount depends on brand of cake mix)

  • vegetable oil (amount depends on brand of cake mix)

Make cake mix as directed, but replace water with espresso.

Add 1 tbsp cinnamon to batter.

Bake as directed

Let cool

Poke about 10 holes in top of cake with the back of a wooden spoon

Pour 1/4 cup espresso over the top. I used instant espresso by adding hot water

Put premade frosting in bowl, add 1 tsp cinnamon and a little espresso at a time

Stir well with every addition of espresso.

Taste test it until it has the flavor you like. I liked mine really flavorful.

This means that your frosting will be glaze consistency.

I like it that way because it fills the holes with frosting.
